Is VoiceBridge HIPAA-compliant?▼
The product is built to be HIPAA-ready and Business / Enterprise tiers come with a signed BAA. All transcripts are encrypted at rest in DynamoDB with AWS-managed KMS keys; Enterprise customers can bring their own customer-managed KMS keys. We do not retain identifiable audio. For full BAA terms, retention configuration, or to discuss Epic / Cerner integration, contact hipaa@voice.keenefl.com.
How does this compare to a live phone interpreter (Language Line)?▼
Live interpreters are $1.20–$3.50 per minute with 30–90 seconds of connection time before the call starts. VoiceBridge is flat-rate ($299/mo for unlimited) with zero connection delay — the interpreter is already running. For a clinic doing 100+ non-English encounters per month, the math is roughly a 70–90% cost reduction. Quality-wise, modern AI translation is now at or above the accuracy of a non-medically-certified live interpreter for routine intake, discharge instructions, and medication review. For complex consent conversations and end-of-life discussions, a certified human is still appropriate.
Can it handle medical vocabulary?▼
Yes. The translation model is tuned for clinical context — medication names, dosing instructions, symptom descriptions, anatomy. We test against the most common ~5,000 medical Spanish terms (diabetes, hipertensión, ictericia, etc.) and the equivalent terminology in Portuguese. The transcript shows both the original and the translation so a bilingual provider can verify in real time.
Does the patient need to install anything?▼
No. The patient or family member scans a QR code from the provider's phone or tablet, and the session opens in their browser. No app, no account, no personal information requested from them. This is especially important for ED triage and walk-in clinic intake where you cannot ask an anxious patient to install software.
What does retention look like for transcripts?▼
Default retention is 3 years on the Healthcare tier (matching common state medical-record requirements). Enterprise customers can configure shorter or longer retention windows per state regulation or BAA terms. All data is deletable on request within 30 days, including via a self-service GDPR/CCPA-style data export from each provider account.
Can I integrate it with our EHR?▼
Webhook delivery is available on Business and Enterprise tiers — session-end fires a webhook with the encounter ID, transcript URL, and AI summary that you can post directly into Epic / Cerner / Athena. Enterprise tier supports custom fields (MRN, encounter ID, provider NPI) that propagate into the transcript record. For Epic OAuth, contact us — we have a pilot integration with two health systems.
What if the patient doesn't speak Spanish or Portuguese?▼
We support those three languages today. If your patient population includes Tagalog, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Arabic, Russian, Haitian Creole, or others, contact hipaa@voice.keenefl.com — we are adding languages quarterly based on Enterprise customer demand and would prioritize languages that match your patient mix.
